Local Heroes
In the Pendle and Burnley area we have a number of National and International cycling heroes past and present.
Local Heroes Are actively competing at Elite, National and International levels now: Steven Burke - Colne. Medalist in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, now training for the London Olympic games. Paul Oldham - Trawden. Top of the UK Cyclcross National rankings for 2010/11 and 2nd in the National Trophy series. Ian Wilkinson - Barnoldswick. Now a professional international road rider with the Endura team. Simon Wilson - Burnley. Elite road rider competing in many national races. Local Heroes of Yesteryear Locally we have a strong history of cycling acheivement: Alan Gornall - Barnoldswick: gold medal at the Commonwealth Games Tony Gornall - Tour of Britain rider and Great Britain International Sue Gornall - women's tour of France rider, and worlds road race rider.
