National Youth Track Omnium Series

This is suitable for riders who have experience in regional track leagues as the standard of riders entering the Omnium series is high. This competition is not for beginners to track racing! It is a challenging series of events, extremely good fun and good experience.

Manchester Velodrome or other velodrome track accreditation is not required to compete, however at least that level of ability is expected.

NOTE: please read the full rules for the 2017 Omnium (pdf) below is a summary.

There are 6 regional series of races in the UK: Northern, Southern, South East, Midland, Scotland and Wales Area Rounds.

  • Each area round has a series of race meetings – see below for the Northern events.
  • Each race meeting has races for A, B and C age categories, with D and E supporting races at SOME events.
  • Riders accumulate points in each race meeting, to get an omnium total for the round.
  • Points will be awarded for the first twelve placed riders in each round.
  • The leading riders of each regional area for each age category are invited to take part in the national final in July. For the Youth A, Youth B and Youth C the top 5 area riders will go through to the National final.
  • The national final does not include D and E category races.

There is a defined race program for each meeting (this is a summary).

  • Time Trial: 1Km for A/B, 500m for C
  • Elimination Race: limited to 5K for C riders
  • Scratch Race: 5-10K for A, 3-6K for B, 2K for C

  • Points race: 8-10K for A, 6-8K for B, 3K for C. Point are added to Omnium points.

Riders are seeded for the match sprint/Keirin based on the day’s standing at that point.

14th May Knowsley. This is a 400m Asphalt outdoor track

2th July – National Final – Herne Hill

Events (apart from indoor tracks) are subject to good weather. Events starts can and do get delayed for hours to allow outdoor tracks to dry out. Occasionally they do get cancelled on the day.

National Youth and Junior Track Championships

The top UK track riders will be taking part, so you do really need to have track racing experience, and be confidently competitive. However, entering is really good to get experience and race against faster riders.

The championships take place over a full week.

Youth A and Junior races are entered separately, so you choose the race events you want to enter for, and these are generally on different days in the week. At Junior level the sprint events are generally dominated by sprint specific riders, with few if any entries from endurance riders. At Youth A level, many riders have a go at all events.

In Youth A and Junior bunch events (scratch and points), where the number of entries exceeds the track rider limits, there are heats at half distance, with riders going through to the final at full distance. The heats and finals are on the same day.

Please check the BC website for details of the current year.

NOTE: The national Championships are for Youth A and Junior. The Youth Omnium Series National Final is the major event for Youth B and C riders.
