British Cycling has long been aware that, for young riders just embarking on their cycling careers, there’s a distinct step up from club activities to open regional competition. This step up often proves to be a barrier for many young riders.
So, young people new to the sport, whether they have joined a Go-Ride Club or simply taken part in coaching sessions at school delivered by Go-Ride Coaches, can find the step up to competition very daunting.
Go-Ride Racing aims to bridge this gap. It’s a new and exciting competition programme which will help young riders make the transition from school or club coaching sessions to inter club and open regional competition. Go-Ride Racing offers entry level, local competition for young cyclists under the age of 16. BC Racing Licences are NOT required and the events are strictly aimed at novice racing cyclists.
Once riders have grown in confidence and experienced success at Go-Ride Racing level, progression to open regional competition will actively be encouraged with advice and support. Go-Ride Racing will act as a stepping stone as well maintaining the best possible competitive experience for the constant influx of new riders starting out at Go-Ride Racing level.
There will be an increasing number of Go-Ride Racing events in the North West. Some of these events will be in the Pendle and Burnley area.
Cycle Sport Pendle is now accredited to run Go-Ride Racing events.
NOTE: Go-Race is a race category for seniors who are beginning racing, this is different to Go-Ride Racing.
