Payton family ride well in BMBRS at Sherwood Pines 28th March 2010
Oliver Payton came in a very creditable 17th Place in the Juvenile category in the Sherwood Pines national Moutain Bike cross country event on the 28th. Competing in 2 of the Dolan Youth series races at Southport recently and the Eastlands inter club event seemed to give Oliver the legs that were needed on what was a very fast course. Well done Oliver. Also very deserving of a mention are Karen (Oliver's mum) with a good result in the Grand Vet Female category, and Peter (dad) in the Grand Vet Male category. Very well done to all three in this national level field, more so considering that Karen and Peter have not long got back into cycle racing.
British Cycling Coach Simon Wilson, with the help of CSP coaches ran Go-Race 'taster' days on the 20th and 24th March at Pendle Vale for 8 to 16 year old boys and girls. See British Cycling Go-Race Information. On the 20th, it was cold and damp, resulting in less riders than expected. However, racing went ahead with a time trial and some handicap races. Results here. Dolan Youth Series Eight of our CSP riders took part in the 2010 Dolan Youth Series in march 2010: Amy Gornall, Connor French, Harry French, Bailey Payne, Alfie Payne, Jack Barlow, Oliver Payton, Thomas Payton. For some of our riders, this was the first time at road / crit racing. Well done to all for taking part and acheving some very respectable results against some very strong competition, in fact some of the best in the Region. Congractulations to Harry for a FIRST place in the handicap race in week 3, after coming 7th in the scratch race in a field of 13 riders. Bailey was 4th in the scratch race and 7th in the handicap. Full results week 1, 13th March 2010 Full results week 2, 20th March 2010 (scratch only, handicap rained off) Full results week 3, 27th March 2010

Press Release March 2010 Meanwhile, young riders from the area continue to make good progress on the biking scene with several Cycle Sport Pendle members in race action over the weekend. The club was well represented in the under 14s 12s and 10s racing The following day CSP youngsters were out in force again this time at the Manchester Velodrome for a four hour structured training and skill session on the famous banked track. Club coach Martin Brass said "when you think the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins and Pendle's very own Steven Burke use the Velodrome throughout the year it's like playing at Wembley for our young riders ! and a great experience, Steven started out in just the same way" Peter Boast
CSP activity for 2010 finally got underway after the bad weather with our usual session at Pendle Vale on the 30th of January. Behind the scenes the clubs leadership group have also been busy with plans for the spring and summer months, roll on the sunshine and light nights. We have a lot to update and remind you about so I'll keep it brief and interesting. Hope's kind donation of four Isla bikes have had some early use at Cyclo Cross events and will soon be available for use at our sessions and for racing. We still need to formulate a loan-out and return policy that is workable and would include a small maintenance charge (use at regular Go-ride sessions would be free). It's envisaged members can have the use of a bike in weekly blocks and dependent on demand. Preference will be given to riders wanting a bike to start racing, or to sample a road bike for the first time. If you haven't seen the HOPE day report on the BC web take a look in the Go-Ride pages. CSP and full time British Cycling Coach Simon Wilson is out and about in Burnley and Pendle schools delivering Go-Ride sessions and he will be organising some Go-Race events at Pendle Vale in March - watch the website for the dates in the diary section. This will be an excellent opportunity for our own members to try some low key fun racing. It will also be a chance for prospective new members. We are also canvassing for a Go-Race slot at the Colne Grand Prix in July. Len has put up dates in March for early season youth racing for older riders or those who have had a taste last season, see the diary page. It would be great to see as many of you as possible in new kit. See Len at the next session for extra guidance. The clubs Junior riders Sam and Martin 16 and 17 respectively start their season off on Sunday 28th of February at the Clayton Spring Classic, Clitheroe. These two are up for a busy season and have been training hard, it will be the very first race for C.S.P kit !!! it would be great to see as many of you out on the course in our new gear cheering the lads on so put it in your diaries. Which leads me nicely to the next news item. Attention all domestic Gods and Goddesses we need lots of cakes baking !. Local club Clayton Velo have been very supportive towards the Formation of C.S.P and several of us are long standing members of the Velo Alan Roper and myself are joint organisers of the Spring Classic which Sam and Martin are riding and we would like to call upon your assistance. We need adult marshalls and HQ assistance on the day. We also have the opportunity to raise funds for CSP by running a cake and brew stall. All monies raised will go to C.S.P funds. There will be over 80 riders plus family members and officials ......... upwards of 150 people on the day wanting a brew and cake. If you can help with the cafe give Janet a call on 07971 624612, if you can help with marshalling give Peter a call 07971 624612. A word about the area's top international GB riders...... Paul Oldham, Steven Burke and Ian Wilkinson, who all take an interest in what's going on at C.S.P. It's great to have them on our patch and all three performing at the highest levels of Cyclo Cross, Track and Road Racing. Check out the BC web site for latest news on all three. Paul Oldham, Ian Wilkinson, Steven Burke. Finally don't forget to book on to the Track session at Manchester Velodrome on the 17th of April. Details are already on the CSP website so book early.
