Chairman's New Year Message

2012......Olympic Year is just around the corner, making it an ideal opportunity to bang the drum about our sport and CSP.  Mark Cavendish is now a household name and Pendles very own Steven Burke is now full on for London 2012.  I noticed that Cavendish was back on the Isle of Man at Christmas, riding in some fun events and out with the local riders on group rides.......which, brings me nicely to urging all our youngsters to join in with the CSP club runs in the New Year. If they are good for Cavendish, then they are definitely good for you !!!!

Awards night is on the 21st January, so please book your tickets soon.  Neil Welsh is the MC for the evening and will have something up his sleeve to keep us alert and entertained.  It will be a chance to celebrate all that you and the club have achieved in 2011.  I am looking forward to doing the 'Chairman's bit' .........reporting on the year for the last time (yes, the last time).  I have always said that any club needs to stay fresh and motivated and I have enjoyed being your Chairman during the clubs infancy.

CSP will have somebody else at the helm in the Olympic year and, I would urge everyone to get behind who ever that is, and really push on with all the great opportunities we have of building a great club.

Best wishes for the New Year to all CSP riders, parents and coaches

Peter Boast

BAG PACKING AT SAINSBURY'S COLNE

SATURDAY 17TH DECEMBER 10.30AM - 4.00PM

Sainsbury's have asked us along to their Colne store to bag pack. We realise everybody will be busy before Christmas, but this was to good an apportunity to miss and one we could not refuse. We should be able to raise a good amount of money for club funds.

Please come along and support Cycle Sport Pendle (in club kit, santa hats & tinsel!!)

This will replace the normal CSP session but, we are able to have a roller session in the foyer. Please bring your bikes and rollers.

Please let Janet Boast know if you can make it.

(All children must be accompanied by a parent - Sainsbury's stipulation)

Club Run News

CSP club runs have been up and running for a month now, and are a firm part and parcel of CSP activity. Despite most of our riders competing in Cyclo-cross races, and doing very well....great stuff all of you!! the club run's have gone ahead as planned. Peter and Sue have led the boot camp group, whilst Alan, Sam and Amy have been ever present with the Academy Group. The best moment was a group of 9 heading home together from Gargrave in true club run formation, not hanging about and solid as a rock......Team Sky style!!!!

CSP coaches and experienced older riders know all about the benefits of group riding, and are all keen to pass this on to the younger members of the club as soon as possible. It is a good rock on which to build a firm cycling career. The Cyclo-cross season comes to an end in the middle of January and, it would be great to see as many club members as possible out togther prior to the Road season commencing!

There is a Workshop and presentation planned soon, where riders and parents will have the opportunity to learn more and pick up tips on riding with others and, group ride etiquette.....(keep an eye on the website)

In the mean time take the time to read this great article by Michael Barry, the Canadian Team Sky Pro rider. It’s enlightening for new riders coming from a top Pro and very motivating to get out there and ride with others.

The Group Ride by Michael Barry on his blog

NOTE: because this article is really good, with kind permission of Michael Barry we have created a pdf you can download from here.
