Welcome to the Academy's Home page, the one stop shop where you can read more about what's going on and planned for CSP riders in the Academy.

What's it about?

For CSP members this is natural progression for the over fourteens, normally as a rider moved into the youth 'A' age range. Our Coaches will encourage and assist young riders to train and compete at their own level, ability and ambition, there is no selection process, just a commitment to learn and progress and enjoy a more structured path of development.

Academy members can expect additional training resources, mentoring, support, and 1:1 coaching as their ambitions and abilities accelerate and develop. This can include diary keeping and feedback. Youth A (14 to 16) and Juniors (16 to 18) and young senior riders (18 to 23) are integrated in to the Academy after progressing through the CSP under fourteens Development squad, alternatively you may come recommended or with some experience. Novice riders too are welcome and would be given some fast track guidance.

What's expected of riders & Parents?

We expect riders to:

  • Regularly attend coaching sessions and training and be committed to a race programme aligned to their own ability.
  • To take guidance, advice, and to respect and support each other.
  • Promote CSP by wearing club kit at all opportunities and to keep their personal training diaries up to date.

Parents have a role too! And it's a simple one....encouragement; there are a few practical ones too! Instil good time keeping, sportsmanship, co-operation and above all friendship. Its great when parents are involved, volunteer, get committed, and be part of the CSP team. Please see our codes of conduct.

Wilko (Ian Wilkinson) Training Advice

What happens when I become a senior rider?

Once you've turned 23 you may have outgrown the academy but we will support you by looking at the options available to you as a senior rider.

  • You may have reached Elite, first or second category status and there will be opportunities ahead in feeder teams or even established teams.
  • Alternatively we would love to keep you within CSP as a senior racer.
  • As a club, we encourage our senior riders to encourage, support and where possible assist our younger riders.

The options are numerous and different for each rider through the programme. But by now you will have many of the skills and knowledge to make even greater progress.
