Saturday mornings youth sessions at the Steven Burke Sports Hub 

Rookies and Skills Group 1 & BMX novice  9.30am – 10.30am

Skills Groups 2& 3 and BMX expert 10.45 – 11.45am

 Riders please arrive  in plenty time to sign on in the Club Room

Monday Evening Skillz Session 6.30-7.30pm

Sign on by 6.15 latest

This session is for invited members of the Skillz group riders from Saturday who are at a level suitable for this session. It is a progression from the Saturday Skillz group, it is NOT a turn up and join in session. 

Tuesday Evening Session 7 – 8.30pm

This session is for invited members.

Friday Evening Session 7 – 8.30pm

Once a month Girls only session and once a month Boys only session.



Parents or guardians should remain present during their child’s session.

Please wrap up warm including gloves and windproof clothing, even in the summer months it can be cold and wet.

Each year we are have a program of activity as Go-Ride sessions – learning to ride and race a bike, and for those already racing and leisure riding to make them better and more competitive bike riders. We welcome interested cyclists to come along and join Cycle Sport Pendle.

Regular cycling sessions are run throughout the year:

  • At The Steven Burke Sports Bub Cycling Circuit
  • Every week unless otherwise stated

Go-ride sessions introduce and progress riders into many forms of leisure and sport / competitive cycling.

Our sessions are open to young people interested in cycling and cycle racing, usually between the ages of 7 and 16, with older riders welcome to take part in our academy program. 

Mentored Rides for our more experienced riders

Mentored rides and training sessions at the circuit are run by qualified coaches, experienced in riding and racing, and fully able to pass on hints and tips to our riders. The rides are on quiet roads, with the aim of gaining experience in bunch riding at a reasonable pace.

Riders will progress to these sessions. Please note that these are for youth riders only, NOT for parents and non-coaches to tag along.

What do I need to get started – please read, this IS important ?

  • A mountain bike will do, or a road bike. The bike must be in good working condition.
  • A CE approved bike helmet IS required to ride with Cycle Sport Pendle. This is for your safety!
  • Clothing that is not baggy, so as not get stuck in a bike chain and wheels. Special cycle clothing is more suitable. As a member of Cycle Sport Pendle, our club kit will be available to you.
  • Training shoes, with laces fastened tight and tucked in. If you have cycling shoes to fasten into your pedals, these can be used.
  • Some form of gloves to protect your hands. Warm gloves with fingers for winter, fingerless Track Mits are excellent for summer use.
  • Permission from your parents to take part. We will ask for a parent consent form to be signed.

What do our sessions lead onto ?

Inter Club/Region

CSP take part in joint “Cluster” sessions with other Go-Ride clubs based in Preston, Bolton and Lancaster areas. Details and information will be posted on the CSP Website.

We will take part in competitive events against other young riders in Lancashire, the Manchester area and other areas. These combined club events are very popular with young riders. When you are ready to begin racing, we recommend that you take out British Cycling membership.


Cycling’s Six disciplines

Get into Cycle Sport with CSP……… Amazing breadth matched by no other sport

With six different disciplines of cycle sport to choose from, there’s one for almost everyone. From the grit and endurance testing challenges of Road Racing, Cyclo-Cross, Cross-Country MTB, through to the shorter “sprint and skill” based BMX, Track Sprint, Downhill, 4-Cross and Cycle Speedway, add to that leisure and Sportive challenge riding and cycle sport has an amazing breadth matched by no other sport.

Road and Circuit Racing

The North West has a good programme of cycle events for youth riders including the North West Youth series and the Dolan Southport Series.

For those interested in trying road racing, local Pendle and Burnley riders regularly take part in the Thursday night racing during the summer – at Steven Burke Sports Hub from 2015. There are races for youth categories, and a separate race for seniors.

Our regular Go-Ride sessions will be excellent preparation for taking part safely in local youth races.

Track Cycling

We encourage our riders to try out track riding at Manchester Velodrome. Many of our current local young riders regularly ride at the track. We will do initial track style coaching at our sessions, as one of our coaches is an experienced Level 2 Track qualified coach.


Cyclocross is a safe and fun way to get into cycle racing. As winter approaches, our sessions will prepare our members to take part in the North West Cyclocross series.

Safe Leisure Cycling

Cycling is fun and can be enjoyed by family and friends at a leisurely pace. Stop at a cafe, ride down country lanes in the Ribble Valley, on the promenade at Blackpool, up the hills around Pendle, or on parts of the Tour-de-France route in France!
