Competition Calendar Road 2012
This section of the website lists the Competitions that our club members might be interested in. These are mainly North west, but some in other area and national. On this page regional leagues are at the top, followed by higher level regional races and race series, followed by National events. There are FIVE criterium race leagues in the North West, all have Youth races: Lancaster, Preston, Tameside, Mancehster (new), Liverpool. Please visit the appropriate website for full details of each event, using the links below and the BC road calendar. The entries on this page will be updated before each season with current dates as they become available. NOTE: You must have bike gearing for your age category in line with BC rules, your bike WILL be checked.
Palatine Spring Specials Circuit Races - Youth and Cat34 At the Palatine cycling circuit, Blackpool. Saturday 5th May Saturday 25th May Saturday 16th June This is a race series for Youth riders, and senior / junior / vet riders who are category 3 or 4, both male and female.
CDNW Science in Sport Criterium - Thursday evenings, Preston arena Starting Thursday 12thApril 2012 This is a summer long race series for all age groups, excellent for racing beginners.The Youth races are at 6:30pm.
Vanilla Bikes ACA Salt Ayre League- Tuesday evenings, Salt Ayre Sport Centre, Lancaster - April - Sept Starting 10th April 2012 This is a summer long race series for all age groups, excellent for racing beginners. The Youth races are at 6:30pm.
Tameside Circuit Races - Tuesday Evenings, run by the Tameside Cycling Development Group This is a 20 week summer long race series for all age groups, excellent for racing beginners. Starting 17th April 2012 The races are at the new Tameside Cycling Circuit, Richmond Street, Ashton under Lyne, OL7 9HG. This is anew cyclingcircuit. Regional A, 2/3/4 rider category races for adults 7:15pm Youth A/B/C race 6:45pm Youth D/E race 6:30pm
City Race Series - Wednesday Evenings, City of Manchester Stadium (Manchester City Ground) This is a series of 6 events in 2011, for all age and ability categories organised by Velocity Race Team, sponsored by Evans Cycles and supported by British Cycling and Manchester City Council. Starting 22nd June 2011 through to 27th July 2011. The racing will take place at a circuit centred on the City of Manchester Stadium at Eastlands, just across the road from Manchester Velodrome. Litherland Circuit League Race - Wednesday Evenings, Litherland Sports Park, L21 7LA This is a summer long race series for all age groups, excellent for racing beginners. 4th April 2012 - August
White Rose Youth League - Bradford / Wormwell - Wednesday every summer NO DATES YET FOR 2012 Starting 11th May 2011 (plus early bird series 16th & 23rd April 2011) This is a youth road race series that runs each week, alternating between the Richard Dunn Sport Centre circuit and the Wormwell karting circuit. (In the past, many North West youth riders have gone to the Bradford venue, but not the Wormwell venue due to the distance and time to get there). There is a time trial and a bunch race. Due to the fairly narrow and hilly circuit at Bradford, this is better for riders with some racing experience. See also the BC website. You can turn up and enter on the line.
Dolan Series Youth Races for 2012- 3 consecutive Saturdays in March/April Starting Saturday 17th March 2012
This is a series of 3 race events, on 3 consecutive Saturdays: 17th, 24th and 31st March 2012, starting 9:30am. Suitable for beginners and experienced riders, on a flat and safe circuit - but it can get windy. Run by Southport CC, held at Victoria Park Southport, PR8 2BZ (This postcode takes you to the car park of the restaurant which is used - get there early for a parking spot!). The Southport CC HQ is near the car park. It costs £20 for all 3 events if entered in advance, or £23 on the line for the series. There are 2 races each day, the first is a straight race, the second a handicap race based on the result of the first race. Isle of Man Youth Tour - end of April each year - Friday 4th May to Sunday 6th May 2012 The Isle of Man youth tour is a Youth and Junior stage race. There are 3 races in each age category Youth a,b,c,d,e and Junior:
The races take place at various locations. For youth riders its on closed roads or the Douglas crit circuit. For the Juniors, races are on demanding open road circuits. Competitors come from all over the UK, making this one of the most competive Youth / Junior road racing events. You need to enter in advance and book accommodation and ferry. There are package deals available for competitors. Note that car parking is time limitedon the promenade in Douglas, thiscan be a problem! Check the IOM youth tour website for more information.
CDNWNorth West International Youth Tour - 2nd - 4th June 2012 This is a 3 day series for all Youth age categories (A-E) with some racing experience as its 5 stages over the 3 days. Open to all youth riders, and many come from all over the UK. The long races are close to the maximum distance allowed for youth races, so this series is only recommeded for riders who are competing in weekly regional crits as a minumum. This event attracts riders from all over the UK, and also in the YouthA category teams from Europe. If in doubt have a go!
