Great day at the Hub 24th august 2013

The Hub funding is now in place thanks to:
Pendle Borough Council, Sport England 'Inspired Facilities', British Cycling, Lancashire Environmental Fund, Nelson & Colne Area Committee's
A massive thanks to all involved with making this happen and especially Tricia Wilson (Borough engineers) and Kieron Roberts (Pendle Parks and recreation)
The Steven Burke Sports Hub - London legacy funding secured
In 2008, six months before the Beijing Olympics a mix of experienced cyclists, ex racers and coaches set out on a journey to establish a new forward thinking cycling club here in Pendle.
Aimed at youngsters and new riders and using the already established format of British Cycling Go-Ride coaching sessions. Cycle Sport Pendle (CSP) was born
Steven Burke, then 20 years old, came back to Pendle with a Bronze medal which added further drive and impetus to our fledgling club. It also coincided with the country’s very first ‘Schools for the future’ initiative. Pendle Vale college was a, yet to be built, sports academy. Excitingly with the prospect of a 1km ‘exercise’ trail around the perimeter, maybe this was an opportunity to include cycling within it use ?
CSP soon established a great rapport with the school and set about convincing people cycling would be a great addition. Time was not on our side and sadly a suitable and wider upgrade was not to be. Undeterred, CSP continued to grow and develop without a purpose built facility. In 2009 Pendle Borough Council was approached by CSP with an ambitious vision for the development of land contained within an already existing football and cricket facility at Swinden playing fields.
The vision gathered pace and supporters and ultimately its successful funding bids, which can be seen in more detail by visiting the Pendle Cycling Development Partnership website. www.cdpp.org.uk
The London Olympic theme was all about legacy, and in 2012 Steven not only won Gold in London but also the realisation locally that his legacy to the Borough, through his success……. Would bring to the forefront a wonderful opportunity to deliver a purpose built cycling facility in the heart of Pendle, in his honour the project was named the……… Steven Burke Sports Hub.
CSP is a British Cycling accredited Go-Ride cycling club in the Nelson, Colne, Burnley, Ribble Valley, Craven & surrounding areas, radiating from the region's iconic Pendle hill. Our aim is to introduce young people and their families to cycle sport, safe leisure riding and all disciplines of racing.
We have opportunities for boys and girls age 7+ to participate and enjoy cycling's multi-facets. Through a varied journey of structured fun sessions, our riders make rapid progress and our unique CSP awards encourage and reward every step of the way.
